In a small therapeutic garden project there was a little courtyard area which was used for sitting and relaxing; however it was felt by the those that used it that it could do with some improvement to make it into a nicer environment. (It was constructed on a small budget using breeze blocks which in turn made it appear very grey and uninviting especially in the darker seasons)
In the redesign the basic layout of the existing courtyard was included but with new additional features including new beds extending out from the main walls, two water features, new and better planting to make the place look more alive all year round and the addition of mosaics to some of the walls to add more colour.
My personal input to this was the addition of the curved look to the design as I felt a smoother look would allow it to flow more and create a more soothing atmosphere.
The other involvement I had was the providing of the mosaics. Most were quite portable though the addition of the condor mosaic to the front of a chamomile seat was the only permanent fixed mosaic.
It was unfortunate that due to many difficulties the Secret Garden was never completed. However, through everyone's hard effort, this is what was eventually achieved.
As can be seen the curved beds actually make quite a difference to what was originally quite an angular design.
